Afterwards, slowly cool down the water and occasional stir with a clean ladle or spoon to allow oxygen to dissolve back into the water. Leave to stand for half a day to a day before drinking.

Biological contaminants, on the other hand, are addressed via chemical treatment using chlorine or through activated carbon filters which trap unwanted microorganisms separating them from the water and killing them in the process.
